Math Network Program

DESCRIPTION
This program, targeting grades 4-10, is built on a model that intertwines content; instructional strategies; formative assessment; mathematics education research on student learning of specific math concepts; and common errors, preconceptions and misconceptions students have when learning new concepts or solving related problems.
The program comprises six content-focused workshops and additional workshop materials for lesson design, questioning techniques and solving word problems. These materials can be embedded in any of the content-focused workshops. The professional development sessions combine math content with research on student learning, analysis of evidence in student work and instructional implications and review of instructional materials.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
1- Introduce mathematics teachers to the latest developments and contemporary approaches to mathematics teaching, such as: Inquiry-based learning (IBL), concept-based learning (CBL), project-based learning (PBL) and problem-based learning (PBL).
- Empower teachers in designing rich activities that provide students with an opportunity to engage in a rigorous and deliberative discussion, where students have the opportunity to model activities as well as solutions and teachers are more of mediators for understanding rather than lecturers.
- Improve teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge; teachers will have a much better understanding of the subject matter concepts and pedagogy, which will lead to be more proficient in designing a more effective instruction.
- Enhance Teachers’ knowledge and skills to utilize technology in their instruction for enhanced learning outcomes.
